The Basics

Ang Thong National Park is a popular destination for Thailand visitors seeking a little adventure and a lot of nature. Tropical and dry evergreen forests of the interior area house oriental pied hornbills, little herons, crab-eating monkeys, and bats. In the shallow waters, sometimes you can find dolphins, whales, and otters. It’s said that the park inspired the backpacker utopia of Alex Garland’sThe Beach.

Most travelers experience Ang Thong on single-day guided tours from Koh Samui or Koh Phangan to Wua Talap Island and its famous Emerald Lake. These guided tours are the way to go, and most day trips include lunch, snorkeling gear, park admission fees, and hotel transfers. Tour boats are often multi-story, open-air, 40- to 50-person crafts, but small private speedboats or luxury yachts are also available. If you wanting to see what’s under the surface, opt for snorkeling, sea kayaking, or scuba diving tours.

Incredibly breathtaking
Blue Star Tours was amazing. The cave kayaking was everything I had hoped it would be. The group was a larger group, but the tour boat was accommodating for everyone. The tour stopped at three different sites to explore; we got to see the green lagoon, and they served lunch and some small snacks. The tour is fairly active and is best for people under 6’4, under 250lbs and those who are able-bodied. There were caves where you had to lie down in the kayak to fit through the cave opening. It was truly amazing; would absolutely recommend.

Samui Island Tour to Angthong Marine Park by Big Boat with Kayaking
Our group of 7 thoroughly enjoyed our day tour. The description was accurate as to time, the crew was welcoming and helpful, the boat was in good order with plenty of seating and shade, the food was very good, the guide Kristina was funny, clear and a wealth of knowledge, and the hikes to the viewpoints and cave were challenging but rewarding. They also picked us up and delivered us to our villa, and we got to see a stunning part of Thailand.

Ang Thong National Marine Park Tour by Big Boat from Koh Samui
We went as a family - 2 adults, 2 x 12 year olds. We all had a great time. Picked up from our hotel by aircon minibus. Not long after we arrived at the port we departed. The boat went through various activities like taking us such to a beach where you could walk up the steps to climb to a viewing point 500m up. It then took us to a lagoon where we were able to snorkel. The crew were great with lots of snacks and drinks provided throughout the day, and a great lunch.

Samui Island Tour to Angthong Marine Park by Big Boat with Kayaking
We had a party of 13 and although we stayed up on the hill in a private villa, they still arranged for a pick up from our accommodation. The guide provided all the necessary information in detailed. The light breakfast and lunch they provided was good. Love the fact the provided unlimited amount drinking water, soft drinks and coffee/tea. They do have beers and bottled water for sale on board which was a good thing too. Overall it was an enjoyable tour.

Samui Island Tour to Angthong Marine Park by Big Boat with Kayaking
Overall we enjoyed this trip - lots happening and the food was great. This is really is value for money - the downside in keeping it good value is that it is very packed in the numbers of people on the boat. We didn’t enjoy that so much. Still it is well organised so nobody misses out on anything
