Planet Ocean Montpellier
Planet Ocean Montpellier is home to over 3,500 sea and ocean animals belonging to 400 species. From the nearby Mediterranean to the depths of the Indian Ocean, from the South African coast to the Atlantic Ocean and the Amazon, you’ll see wonders from across the globe in the dozens of basins and tanks.
The basics
More than just an aquarium, this interactive marine museum on the French Mediterranean coast features a sea storm and a 3D underwater exploration simulator—the only ones in Europe—as well as France’s largest covered tank, measuring 33 feet (10 meters) high and 59 feet (18 meters) wide. The biggest crowd pleasers in the nine marine ecosystems–which range from Arctic waters to the tropics–are the African penguin, the coral reef, and the colorful tropical fish. The aquarium’s attractions are categorized by age, so visiting families can easily pick and choose which to visit.
