Piazza del Colosseo, Rome, 00184

The Basics

As the second most popular attraction in Italy after only the Vatican, the Colosseum hosts some 4 million annual visitors, meaning that long lines are nearly inevitable without a skip-the-line tour. Choose from a number of tours suited to any age or interest, such as a Colosseum underground tour that heads beneath the arena floor to explore a network of passages; a small-group guided tour of the third tier; or a night tour that offers an eery experience and relief from the daytime heat. Consider group tours, self-guided audio tours, or private tours to gain an understanding of this well-preserved ancient Roman amphitheater and its historical importance.

Rome tour
Very informative tour! Some stairs and hills but that’s just part of the experience! Headsets worked well. Got a lot of information! Tour was planned for 3 hours but ended up being about 4 hours.

Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum Guided Tour | Skip the Line Tickets
We really enjoyed our tour with Zenda—it was incredible and so worth it to be able to go into the colosseum dungeons, which is the main reason we booked a tour, and to have someone help explain what it is we were looking at. The meeting instructions were a little out of date from pre-Covid and it would be worthwhile to update as we had some difficulty finding our tour, but we would definitely still recommend and enjoyed our experience. Thank you!
Great Tour of the Colosseum

VIP Colosseum Tour
We had a VIP small group tour of the Colosseum and it was incredible and well worth the price. Our guide was so knowledgeable providing a wealth of context and insight into what we were seeing which made the experience. The tour had to start a half hour later due to Covid restrictions and Viator kept us informed. I would highly recommend this tour.
I recommend this to everyone visiting Rome

Vatican and Colosseum Combo Tour: Don’t Wait in Line to See the Best of Rome
Elisabetta was PHENOMENAL. It’s our first trip post Covid and the family was totally impressed with the entire tour. Elisabetta’s knowledge was incredible. You would be lucky to have a Vatican tour with her. The afternoon tour was equally as perfect. The tour gave us insights into the Colosseum I did not know and I’ve been to Rome several times.

Giuseppe was an excellent guide. His English is flawless and is extremely knowledgeable of the history of his country. The Colosseum tour is a must with this guide. Any random questions by the crowd he was able to answer them as well. Our group size was 23 people which was large enough.
Worth the tour

Colosseum Arena at Dusk Small Group
We were running late due to major traffic by our hotel & they worked with us for us to be able to join the tour still which was so nice & Our guide George shared so many interesting facts with us it was a great experience. The tour was the perfect amount of time 1-1.5 hours & right before the colosseum closed so we were able to see many areas almost empty which was cool.

Gladiator Gate and Arena Floor Special Access Colosseum Tour
I enjoyed the Colosseum tour and the Roman Forum. Our guide was enthusiastic and told the history of the sites where you could visualize it. It was one of the best tours on our trip. Our guide Ahmed even made a good recommendation on where to eat after the tour.

Skip the Line: Colosseum Small Group Tour with Roman Forum & Palatine Hill
Guide was a true and proud Roman. Very knowledgeable and injected much humour to the tour. Was very good in connecting what and how we see ancient Roman structures to how it was before, bringing to life these amazing buildings of the Roman Empire. Only downside is that we were not able to appreciate on our own time the items in the Colosseum museum as we were following the group. We did get glances though, and the facts of the tour, we found more valuable.

Irene was an amazing tour guide on our Roman Forum and Colosseum adventure. Not only she was very knowledgable and experienced, but she also had a great sense of humour and made the whole experience more enjoyable and interesting. Ps. She is also a great photographer, not to mention that she speaks 7 languages.

When to Get There

Since the Colosseum is most crowded during the middle of the day, begin or end your Rome tour with a visit first thing in the morning or just before last entry (which is an hour before closing time) in the late afternoon. Alternatively, choose a night tour for a unique, less crowded experience. Summer is the most popular time of year to visit, while the site receives fewer crowds in November through February, aside from the Christmas and New Year holidays.

It was built in under 10 years and was used for games and hunting for over four centuries.
