What a fantastic experience we had yesterday with the wonderful Audrey. It definitely was worth every penny visiting special places with History and wonderful food tastings. I don’t know how people say they don’t get much to eat we had had no breakfast but still had to carry out our cannoli as we were so full we couldn’t manage it. The market traders were all polite and were eager to share their knowledge as was Audrey who kept us amused with her stories about the area we were in and the people . Best tour yet in Boston. Thank you Audrey and also the lovely Canadians Ron and Sue who were great company.
Boston Public Market & North End Foodie Tour \Review

My wife and I have done quite a few food tours; we find it a great way to learn about the local culture and stories. They have been great experiences and we often went back to further explore/experience the parts we liked. This food tour was mediocre at best. We toured a couple farmers markets and received free sample and a little culture. The biggest issue I had was with the food. I have a shellfish allergy and it did not seem like they made an effort to accommodate me. When they went for lobster rolls at a sushi stand, I basically just watched everyone eat. Also, one of the two farmers markets was a couple of years old, I would have like to experienced more of the North End eateries and less time walking a farmers market/food court.

While we're always disappointed on the rare occasions when we don't meet guests' expectations, to receive a 2-star review for offering a product as advertised is disheartening, and, quite frankly, unfair. We are only positioned to meet guests' expectations when guests read tour descriptions fully, and choose tours that are are aligned with their interests and dietary restrictions.
With a lobster roll and clam chowder as two of its significant components, our Boston Public Market & North End Tour is simply not an appropriate choice for either non-seafood eaters, or those with a seafood allergy. While we provide swaps when available, we are not able to do so at our fish market stop, and have limited substitutions at our chowder stop.
The second significant component of this tour is the Market District. On Fridays and Saturdays we visit a historic outdoor market, as well as an award-winning indoor market, where we enjoy small tastings, including a lobster roll. While this portion of the tour has been very well-received - in fact, many guests return to the Market right after the tour - if you simply do not enjoy markets of this type, once again, this would not be the appropriate tour for you.
Lastly, while our guests experience three stops in the North End/Little Italy, a better option for those who wish to experience it fully would be our North End Neighborhood Tour.
As always, we urge all guests to read tour descriptions fully prior to making a ticket purchase. We are also available to respond to questions as appropriate. Our goal is to meet every guest's expectation, but we can only do so when guests do their due diligence, and choose the tour that is most appropriate for them.
Terrible value for money

This was terrible value for money. Lunch was an underwhelming mini sup of chowder.
I’m disappointed I spent so much for this tour.
Response from Host , Jul 2019
For context, readers should pair this review with a second July 28th one from the same party of three young women. We do not consider either review to be in the truthful, informative spirit of TripAdvisor, and regret that these guests have chosen to write these reviews with seemingly the sole intent of damaging Boston Foodie Tours' future sales and ranking.
Following is our response to this party's primary purchaser's initial review:
"While we pride ourselves on a consistent record of exceeding guests' expectations, on rare occasions, we simply are not positioned to do so, which, in this case, was evident from the outset of the tour. Upon arrival, this guest alerted us to both an allergy restriction (nuts) and a non-seafood preference (not an allergy). As noted in all of our marketing, our Boston Public Market & North End Tour includes two seafood stops (lobster roll and chowder) and a nuts stop. Our guest claimed that not only wasn't she aware of the seafood tastings, but also that it wasn't noted in our marketing. The latter is simply untrue, as is public record. This guest was disappointed further prior to the tour's departure when she learned that we wouldn't be able to address her hunger immediately. Her frustration continued throughout the tour, during which she was either disruptive, disengaged, or simply absent from the group.
We stand behind this product, including the quantity of food, which, as other reviews demonstrate, either leaves guests full or more than full when all tastings are enjoyed. We also offer swaps - in this case a full bowl of French onion soup - when available and as appropriate. That being said, we expect that guests have read tour descriptions fully prior to ticket purchase to ensure that our tours are a fit for preferences and/or dietary restrictions. Furthermore, as a courtesy to all of our guests, we expect that behaviors conform to etiquette expected in group settings.
We trust that readers will view this review in context, and with the intent with which it was written, and that they will consider our overall outstanding record of performance when making a purchasing decision."
Total Disappointment

I was very excited to book this tour. I’ve done many food tours in several cities.
I also invited my friends to come along.
Audrey was our guide. She started off by asking if we had food allergies. When I told her I didn’t eat seafood, and was allergic to peanuts. She immediately told me I signed up for the wrong tour.
We made a stop at an open food market, and all shared a small piece of pear cactus.
Then we headed to the indoor Boston Food Market. Very cool place to see. We spent a lot of there, tasted a small apple cider donut, shared a maple glazed donut. She walked by several food stands, told us about the food, but didn’t get to taste it. Disappointing to find out that the popovers that she talked about for 5 minutes, weren’t part of the tasting. We we lucky that the vendors had free samples for anyone in the market. That’s how we got to taste ice cream, and blue fin pate. We then headed a honey stand, and taste 4 drops of honey.
There was a stop at the nut stand, but I couldn’t participate in due to my allergy. My friends sampled a few nuts. These would have been free without the tour.
My friends enjoyed the mini lobster roll.
Then we headed to a historic restaurant for a cup of clam chowder and a large piece of cornbread. That was lunch.
We then headed to the north end, and tasted a nickel sized piece of fresh mozzarella, and a small slice of bread.
Last stop included a full cannoli.
Overall, this was the worst food tour I’ve done. We were all disappointed, and shocked at the lack of real food tastings.
Don’t let the “foodie” in the tour name fool you. It was more if history tour, with free food samples.

This tour was wonderful! Everything we sampled was so delicious and we even learned some history of the area as well during it. My only regret was not doing it earlier in my trip so I could take advantage of all the wonderful food we learned about. We will definitely tour with them again on our next visit!

Dissapointing tour

Very dissapointed in this tour. It advertised there were substitutions for the food samples. 4 out of the 5 in our group cannot eat seafood. The substitution for the lobster roll was a can of soda. The substitution for the clam chowder was French onion soup but the tour guide told the waiter no bread or cheese, so they were given onion broth. Very poor for $68 per person !
