Great trip to Gros Piton, brought to life by our driver!

A fantastic trip, that we would both highly recommend. Although the hike up Gros Piton was main reason for our trip, what turned out to be an added bonus was our driver, Danny Boy. From start to finish, he talked us through the scenery around us and the history of the island - information we would not otherwise have found out! Ask for him as a driver if you can. The hike up the mountain is challenging but do-able if you have a decent level of fitness, just go at your own pace. Start early in the morning before the heat of the day. On our way back, Danny brought us to the rum distillery for rum tasting (6 dollars per person), which was an interesting way to finish the day.

More like a climb and not a hike- lots of boulders and rocks. Beautiful views at the 1st quarter and halfway marks- also at the top too. Bring lots of water and hiking shoes! Definitely a challenge but worth it!

Danney made the hour and a half drive feel like 20 minutes! He provided great insight into the history of Saint Lucia and every location we passed. Traveling solo, I felt completely safe and worry-free. The hike itself was beautiful. Quite the challenge, but guides were encouraging, and rest stops were located at helpful intervals.round trip on June took approximately 3hrs 20min, which included a 40min break at peak.

Fanatic Hike! Danny Boy is great

Like a lot of people the reason I booked this trip was the fantastic reviews Danny Boy had received and boy he didn’t disappoint. Danny Boy picked us up at 6am with strong communication before hand, always replying to our messages quickly. As soon as we got in to his car, he was upbeat and really set the great mood for the day. He has such a wealth of knowledge it made the 2hour journey feel like 15 minutes. He made sure we stopped on the way to take pictures and enjoy the views. Once we got to Gros Piton, we paid the US$ 50 per person and was allocated a tour guide. The hike is certainly challenging and you’ll be sweating from the first minute so I recommend taking sweatbands and a change of clothes for the journey back. Take plenty of water (we took 3L each which did include the 1.5L Danny Boy gave us). Take snacks; bananas, nuts etc. as you’ll need to replenish on the hike. I would also recommend sturdy trainers or walking boots as the hike is essentially climbing rocks after rocks. The view at the top is amazing and we’ll worth the hike. Once we got back down Danny Boy had ice cold beers as promised and again made the 2 hour return journey fly by. We had an amazing day and would say it was our favourite excursion of our holiday. Danny Boy is a legend!

Surpassed Expectations! This is more than an amazing 2600+ft hike to Gros Piton! It is a cultural immersion, a local experience of what St. Lucia is all about. Danny Boy picked us @6am from Marigot Bay docks. We stayed at an off the island resort, so he waited patiently for our ferry to arrive. Right from the get-go, Danny Boy was excellent at communication. He responded as quick as humanly possible via Viator which we appreciated a ton. Danny Boy was an encyclopedia and history buff! He schooled us good along the way to the hike and not in a boring monotone kind of way. He was quite interactive and animated with his approach. After the Piton hike, Danny Boy of course had a cold Piton waiting for us. He then took us to this awesome black sand beach and to a local off the street vendor where we enjoyed the best authentic chicken and pork BBQ with salad, plantain and bananas. We seriously ate, drank and listened to reggae tunes amongst the locals. Check out my IG if you want to see how much fun we had @ja.yc - these photos don’t do justice. If you want exceptional service, experience an island life and get more than a beautiful hike and view, then this tour is for you. Danny Boy is your man! Thanks for a great time. Great morning at Gros Piton!

Had the best time with Danny driving from the north down to Gros Piton! He made the long early morning journey feel so fast and we learned a ton about St. Lucia’s history. Pickup at our resort was seamless and he greeted us with cold beers after the hike. The hike itself is definitely strenuous but you have a guide with you and it’s well worth it to get to the summit. Also recommend paying the extra $5 for walking poles. We also did the sulfur mud bath afterwards ($10/person) which was great as well, and you can add a stop for lunch if you want too. We didn’t, but it was offered! This was a highlight of our trip and worth every penny. Thanks Danny!

Danny Boy was a great driver! He was very funny and entertaining! He made the drive fly by with his knowledge of the island and then a quiz on the return trip. I scored a 95 on his quiz, even though my fellow hikers would firmly disagree. :-) The hike was very challenging. My wife and I are in our early to mid 50's, but are considered fit. We run and weight train. Up and down are equally challenging. The accent was mostly cardio. The descent was more physical, involving the arms and upper legs. We finished the entire hike in about 4 hours, which is a common time for finishers. I recommend taking lots of water, snacks, a backpack and camera. It helps to keep things light.

The hike is wonderful and so is Danny Boy. To be clear, this Viator offering is only for transportation to the mountain. Once you get there, there is a $50 US admission price per person and you will be assigned a guide. It is an approximately 2 hour hike up and 2 hour hike down. The hike is very intense and we needed lots of rests on the way up (our two teenage boys did not : ) Our tour guide “chilli” was fantastic, kind and helpful. The view(s) on the way and at the top were incredible and absolutely worth it! They have some food at the base of the climb but we’re no longer serving around 1:30 when we finished. Instead, we elected to have some ice cream which had some great local flavors.

Exhilarating experience I'll remember forever

Danny boy (our private limo driver and mayor of tourism!) was the best tour guide and a mine of information on the ride over from our hotel. The time flew by and we learned a lot about the island and its history. Pay attention as there will be a test on the way back 😜 We met our guide at the guides village near the base of Gros Piton, hired a walking pole (an essential) and paid the $50 per person entrance fee. The first 1/4 is reasonably easy to walk as much is dirt trail. Second 1/4 is a bit more challenging, lots of rocks and boulders to negotiate but worth it for the amazing view of Petit Piton from the view point/rest stop. From here on in it gets really tough (and if its raining like when we went, it's extremely slippery so make sure you have good shoes with lots of grip) not everyone will make it to the top. If you are fit and healthy and open to a real challenge, this is a must do on the island. For nature lovers, keep an eye open for the SL bullfinches (males Black with red throat and females are grey/brown. Super cute and pretty brave so will come right up to you. If you're really lucky you might see the national bird. Usually hear them before you see them. Journey back from base camp was another fun hour with Danny boy. Here's very accommodating and will stop and point out points of interest or if you want to buy anything he knows where to go. Best excursion we've had in a long time. Highly recommend

We enjoyed our Piton adventure. Danny Boy was very entertaining and informative. He made the long drive from our resort to the Pitons enjoyable and we learned a lot of St. Lucian history and culture- I think we even passed the quiz at the end! The hike was strenuous, but the views were incredible and worth the climb. The only thing we wish is that Danny Boy had made the climb with us. We would definitely recommend this excursion for anyone who enjoys hiking, a workout, and phenomenal views!

Danney Boy is amazing!!! He picked us up at 6am sharp and entertained us with cool facts about the island the entire drive to the gros piton trail head. We enjoyed our hike up the mountain, but beware it is extremely steep! I recommend hiking shoes and lightweight clothes as it gets hot up on the mountain. It took us about 2 hours to go up and 2 hours to get back down the mountain (around 4 miles in total). At the top ask your guide to take you to the piton view (we thought it was better than the view from the tippy top). Danney Boy greeted us at the bottom with refreshing piton beers and drove us back to our resort. We had such a great time, this tour is worth every penny!!! Thank you Danney!!!

This was a thoroughly enjoyable day from start to finish. Danny Boy made the journey to the Pitons pass quickly with his extensive knowledge of the island and interesting facts along the way. He made sure we were well stocked up with snacks and water before handing us over to the official hike guide, Katya. Do not underestimate the difficulty of this hike in the heat! It tested me physically and mentally and I am used to doing lots of hiking. Katya was excellent and set a sensible pace for us and kept us motivated when the going got tough. Up to halfway was very doable (but the heat was draining); the second half is much, much steeper, rockier and requires full concentration at all times. There are some steps and handrails in the trickier sections. 2 hours 5 minutes after we set off we arrived at the peak and the views did not disappoint! Take time to enjoy the views, rehydrate and gather your energy as the hike down is almost as difficult as going up (same route).Your legs will feel like jelly by the time you finish. Thrilled to have competed this challenge but it will remain a 'once in a lifetime' event for me! Thanks to Danny Boy for the very welcome water and beer when we finished and for the taxi service. Watch out for the test about the island on the return to your hotel!!

The Gros Piton hike was challenging but worth every step! My wife and I had a great time. Our tour guide was excellent but a special shout-out goes to our driver Danney Pierre aka Danney-Boy! He was fantastic! I highly recommend this tour and of course Danney as a driver.

Danney boy was the best taxi driver! Very knowledgeable. Gave us great insight into the history and culture. Mervin the Mountain Goat was our tour guide and he was fantastic as well. He’s been hiking the trail all his life and knew so much about the land. It is a very tough hike so be prepared! Bring snacks

Our driver (Mr. Danny Boy) was exceptional. Did a great job providing us with transportation as well as a history of St. Lucia. However, we were unaware that the drive to the mountain was 2 hours; one way. Additionally, once at the mountain, we did not enjoy our tour guide. She was pregnant, and not only walked behind the entire time, she did not complete the hike with us, and mostly had a bad attitude.

The reviews do not lie, it is an intense hike up and just as intense going down. It is a steep climb over rocks/boulders, but the views were totally worth the pain!! The $5 rental of a hiking pole that can be rented before you start came in handy and we were very happy that we chose to rent them. People should bring bug repellent because there are mosquitos (at least when we went) and we were glad we brought a small travel size container. Please keep in mind, the hike is very intense and your legs will feel like Jell-o after it is over, but the views and experience is worth it! Danny Boy was an awesome driver who arrived on time, was funny and shared his knowledge of St. Lucia with us. He did an excellent job and highly recommend for people to get him as your driver!

All I can say is wow! Beautiful views all the way up to the top of the mountain. Definitely a difficult hike, but I was determined to make it to the top with my tour guide. Such a great feeling of accomplishment once we made it. If you can handle an intense hike at least halfway it is worth it for the views. Very informative and friendly guides.
