The Walk... The Food... The Entire Experience!

Where to begin? A guide with a great sense of humor and wealth of Charleston knowledge... and he can cook, too! The walk was really enjoyable. He even took pictures of each couple / group traveling together, printed the pictures, and gave us each a personal photo magnet! Then the food. Oh my goodness. Every course was absolutely delicious. Seriously, the best shrimp and grits I have ever had. Oh and the wine pairing! Fabulous wines! Everything was delicious. Forrest was willing to answer each and every question with patience and clearly he enjoyed imparting his information be it on the city of Charleston, cooking, ingredients, appliances, you name it! Down to earth and fun. I would highly recommend this tour!

After many trips to Charleston, this was easily one of the best experiences we have ever had here! The tour conducted by Chef Forrest was fun and loaded with tons of information. Better than the carriage ride tours because you are actually touching the buildings and walking down each ally. Duelers’ ally was so neat. Now to the best part - Chef Forrest cooked a fantastic meal while discussing the origins of the recipes and the different ingredients. It was so good; the various dishes evoked emotion. If you have a chance this is a must do tour! I promise you will be blown away.

Well worth your time!

Chef Parker combines history, humor and fabulous food to create an experience that is well worth your time. A few unexpected notes: the tour is indeed a 1/2 day, not 3 hours. The walking tour alone was a quick and entertaining 2.5 hours that focuses on Charleston history, architecture and botany. A smaller fraction is devoted to culinary history, unlike the description purports, but Chef Parker has a thorough understanding of the culinary history of the area and welcomes all questions. The tour culminates in a small bistro where, in a smaller group, allows everyone a front-row seat to a cooking demonstration full of stories and techniques for every skill-level (none necessary). Chef Parker is humble in esteem but yielded one of the best "meals" I've had in Charleston, in the company of Circa 1886 and Husk. The wine quality was adequate, yet flavors were well-paired. Be sure you have comfortable shoes, allot 5.5 hours and bring a healthy appetite, and you won't be disappointed with one of the best tour/culinary experiences Charleston has to offer.

Forrest is passionate about everything Charleston. The tour was not my first of Charleston, but I still learned things. And the food and wine were outstanding! The only suggestion I have is that mirrors over the cook station would have made the cooking visible to ALL the guests. Don't hesitate to sign up, do it!
