Departure Time

8:30 AM
Discover some of the most spectacular scenery in the Canadian Rockies, enjoying fun hikes and wildlife spotting on the way, during this excursion to the Maligne Valley in Jasper National Park. This spectacular national park offers a jaw-dropping range of natural scenery that has to be seen to be believed.

Start with a pickup from your Jasper hotel in the morning, traveling by air-conditioned coach with your guide into the beautiful surroundings of Jasper National Park. Make your visit stop of the day at Maligne Canyon, proceeding on an easy walk over two bridges that traverse 165-foot (50-meter) deep gorge etched into the area's limestone. Admire the incredible views as cascades of water pour into the canyon, and join your guide for a short explanation of the area’s wildlife and geology.

Board your coach and drive next to Medicine Lake, tracing the path of a scenic highway as it snakes through the nearby forests and mountains. Arrive at this beautiful alpine body of water, learning about its mysterious “disappearance” every summer, which is caused by the water’s retreat into an extensive network of underground karsts (among the biggest in the world).

Continue to Maligne Lake, taking time on its shores to enjoy a boat ride to the postcard-perfect Spirit Island or a nature walk along an easy trail. Those who select the hike trace the Mary Schaffer Loop trail, proceeding along the banks of Maligne Lake with a gorgeous lookout. The site offers a variety of benches and interpretive signage, allowing you to take a rest before continuing back to your starting point.

Those on the boat cruise climb aboard their vessel, complete with enclosed cabin and extra-large viewing windows, as they travel across this incredibly scenic body of water. Make a brief landing at the pine-tree covered Spirit Island, enjoying a chance to take a few photos and wander around before returning to the boat and back to shore.

As you proceed through the course of your day’s activities, listen to interesting commentary about the human and natural history of the region. Keep your eyes peeled for the abundant wildlife known to frequent the area, which includes caribou, wolves, deer, bear, bald eagles, osprey, bighorn sheep and moose.

Finish your day’s activity with a drop-off back at your Jasper hotel.

Visiting the wild life around the city, in the way of Maligne Canyon. The information given by the guide was so interesting. He showed us something that we could never find by ourselves. His responsibility and care made a convenient, smooth, enjoyable and memorable day for us.

My holiday to Canada and Alaska was covid cancelled for the 2nd time. I had 7 day trips booked with you all of which were cancelled last year. I have rebooked Holiday for May 22, on looking at next years trips I was informed that 1 trip was still live for 2021. Multiple attempts were made to cancel this trip but to no avail. Even my Cruise consultant Kirsten from the Cruise specialists contacted one of your people & was told the trip was cancelled. Then I got a text telling me the £166 was being taken from my account another failed attempt to contact you, then a ticket was sent to me in England for a trip we could not take, then I get a text asking how I had enjoyed the trip! We had booked trips with your co. worth over £1000 which we were going to do next year but will now look for another firm. I am still waiting for a refund.

Great lake Cruise

We took the Maligne Canyon walk and lake cruise. It was a very nice way to see some parts of the park one may not normally have done. Our guide Lutz was very knowledgeable about the areas plants, animals and terrain. I could have walked a little more, it was a very short walk through the canyon and not difficult at all. The boat cruise was very pleasant. It was a cool & breezy September day but the boat ride was warm. Our Captain Luis and guide Nick were also very knowledgeable about the lake and mountains. I would recommend this tour.

Kind of disappointing

We were expecting much more from the tour, as we could have visited the spots by car. We visited several lakes and walked several trails around the Banff National Park area, and we had done the research prior and didn’t need any guides. So little piece of advice: Do your research before and visit the lakes in Jasper on your own. The guide, however was very knowledgeable and nice. Also, the boat ride to Spirit Island is a total rip off, they don’t warn you when you purchase that option that’s it’s literally a 10 minutes stay on the island and where you are not allowed to explore the actual island because it is on Indigenous territory, which is totally fine. But don’t sell me a boat ride saying that we’re gonna visit it.
