Vatican tours with skip-the-line access are sought-after, so even the fast-track lines are long. This experience includes admission through a special entrance, so there are no lines whatsoever. Follow your guide directly inside the vast collection of private artwork that is the Vatican Museums.

Walk through the Gallery of the Maps and Gallery of Tapestries as you listen to tales of Vatican intrigue. Gaze at artifacts such as timeworn yet fascinating Italian maps, and admire the sculptures and candelabras of the Gallery of Candelabras. Stop for photos in front of the Pigna statue in the Pinecone Courtyard, designed by Donato Bramante.

Raphael’s Rooms are a series of galleries that highlight the talent of the lauded Renaissance artist himself. Pass through the rooms, and then step inside the Sistine Chapel—the pope’s personal place of worship and a highlight of any Vatican trip. Stand beneath Michelangelo’s 'The Creation of Adam,' which cloaks the ceiling, and admire 'The Last Judgement,' his colorful mural that adorns a wall.

After your Sistine Chapel visit, continue to St. Peter’s Basilica, the symbolic heart of the Catholic church. Learn about its history and see more Vatican art including Michelangelo’s 'La Pietà,' which was sculpted when the maestro was only 24 years old. Gaze at the baldachino by Bernini, and then say goodbye to your guide in St. Peter’s Square.

Keep in mind that St. Peter's Basilica and St. Peter's Square might be unavailable on Wednesdays due to the weekly Papal Audience. As an alternative, enjoy an extended itinerary within the Vatican Museums, which still includes the Sistine Chapel and Raphael's Rooms. If you want to make sure that St. Peter's Basilica and Square are included in your tour, don't select Wednesday as your travel date.

If you want to enhance your Vatican experience, select one of the following experiences:

Small-Group Tour in the morning: Enter the Vatican Museums as soon as it opens, before the other lines enter. Your tour is limited to 10 people for personal attention and information about the Vatican’s must-see sights.

Tour in the evening: Explore the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel after the doors close to the general public. A visit to St. Peter’s Basilica is not included.

My family and I had an amazing time at the Vatican. Paola, our guide, was exquisite.: very knowledgeable. She took the time to explain the history behind each Piece of art in every room we entered inside the Vatican.

Second Time Around and Still Great!

The Vatican is a must-see if coming to Rome. Our guide is an archeologist and her background and discussion on the history of the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel were fantastic. She gave great insight into how the frescos were made, and the significance of the characters. Really worthwhile tour! One additional comment: I went on this same tour in February 2020 just before COVID 19 lockdown, and have a different but still great experience. The guide I had at the time is a very devout Christian, and she gave great insight into the church, the changes over the years, and the religious significance of artifacts and paintings in the Vatican. She brought a great perspective with so much enthusiasm and love for what she does. Her comment 'I am honored to go to the Vatican everyday and share the blessing with everyone.' Worth mentioning. Both guides were great!

Visiting Vatican City and...
Janaki_B
, Oct 2021
Visiting Vatican City and the Sistine Chapel were a must with a guide due to the history and details encompassing each room and space. It was a bit overwhelming to witness all the works of art and history at once. However, having a tour guide helped with filtering the details, understanding the history and chronological timeline, and appreciating the art history.

Doriana was wonderful and well organized. Tour requires heavy walking, so be prepared. Could not currently access basilica from Sistine Chapel so added a lengthy walk to the day.

Our tour guide (GiGi) was the absolute best. His personality captured the true essence of the whole experience. He showed humor, passion, he engaged each one of us in his group! He knew the history like the back of his hand!

Waste of time

Hated it!!! I had dine this tour before and it was MUCH better in EVERY aspect of the way. This tour started of bad by the three tour agents for city wonders fighting as to who was going to get what guests. Then we had to wait for a guest that was very late. Then at the entrance the tour guides aside complained and argued because our guide apparently was not being allocated the correct amount of tickets by the other guide. One inside, the guide spent countless time talking about stuff that was of no interest. His English accent was also very slurred and hard to understand. Keep in mind that I have done this tour before and that past experience was wonderful. This one was horrible. This 5 hour tour could have been condensed to 2 hours since he didn't even take us into Saint Peter's Basilica.

Awful terrible experience
George_L
, Oct 2021
We were 6 mins late due to having a disabled person in our family. We attempted to contact the tour guide and to ask another guide to assist us with contacting her. No success, no sympathy, no one cared. Awful terrible experience. We want a refund, not a voucher as we have already left the country.
