Board your luxury coach, and travel from Rome to Tuscany with its scenic, rolling hills. Your first stop is Montepulciano, a town renowned for its fine wine and views. The Renaissance hilltown is best-known for its production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a full-bodied red wine. Learn about it on a walking tour, and discover highlights such as the Florence-style clock tower, the cathedral with its yet-to-be-finished façade, medieval wine cellars, and the old town walls.

After a break for photos, travel further into Tuscany to explore the area around Montalcino. Step inside Sant’ Antimo Abbey, and then soak up the vistas that stretch beyond the vineyards.

Hear how the local vineyards produce the acclaimed Brunello di Montepulciano wine, and then sample a glass for yourself over a 3-course lunch at a local farm. In traditional Tuscan style, the menu features fresh farm-grown produce as well as a selection of local wine.

From the farm, travel on to Pienza, one of the region’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Here, enjoy free time to explore. The layout of the town was created by Pope Pius II, who wanted to change the look of his birth town. Admire the historic center, which stays true to the pope’s vision, and gaze at the fine architecture that abounds. If you are a fan of food, check the shops for pecorino cheese, arguably Pienza’s most prized product.

Your day trip finishes with your coach journey back from Tuscany to Rome.

Must-do Tour

The hill towns we visited were amazing, although climbing the streets of Montepulciano was a bit of a challenge in the hot sun. The wine tasting was fantastic, the food was delicious especially the sauce on the PIci (pasta) and the ladies who own the vineyard, Angela and Cecilia were wonderful hostesses. My family thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We would definitely do this tour again.

Had a great time visiting. Definitely a must see. Beautiful even while on the way there. Bring water and wear sunscreen cause it will be hot but definitely worth it. More than enough food is served at lunch and they give a good amount of wine. Andrea the tour guide was amazing. Extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Tuscan history. He also helped me recover my wallet which I had left on a bus from a previous CityWonders Tour. I had nothing short of a great experience.

Disappointing COVID protocols not enforced.

, Jun 2022
My wife and I caught COVID on the tour. Your tour director or bus driver did not require masks even though we were advised this was the directive of the Italian government. Out of 40 people on board my wife and I as well as 2 other guests were the only ones wearing masks. Your tour guide and assistant did wear masks but never asked people on the bus to wear them. Very disappointing that the protocols were not enforced.

We had a very good tour guide named Andrea and driver Guisepi. The drive was very nice with beautiful countryside views. The two towns we stopped at were amazing especially if your a twilight fan! Had fantastic gelato! The food and wine experience were ok and that’s the only reason I’m giving it four stars.

Very nice itinerary. Guide was great. The local guides, very passionate and knowledgeable, however talked too long, lost the attention of guests.

Tuscany in a day
Tim_S
, Jun 2022
Our guide, Laura, did a great job of explaining the history and current way of life for the Tuscany region. She injected personal experience into the story telling and was very open to answering question we had. The beauty of the region was the visual pleasure of the trip. Visiting the old towns in the area and getting to know why they existed was very satisfying. Also tying the locations along the way to some popular movies was an extra plus.
