Muir Woods National Monument and the village of Sausalito are two of the most popular things to do north of San Francisco. This convenient tour from the city makes it easy to check off both from your list, plus take a San Francisco Bay cruise for even more photo ops.

Your morning starts with a drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, where you’ll stop to take in views from Vista Point on your way to Muir Woods. Enjoy ample time to walk along paths through the forest of old-growth coastal redwoods, known for being some of the oldest and tallest trees in the world.

Then head to Sausalito, a picturesque small town nestled between the Marin Headlands and San Francisco Bay on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Take a walk on the waterfront, grab a snack (own expense) or check out the art galleries and shops. Once back in San Francisco, board your Bay Cruise departing from Pier 39.

Your narrated cruise takes you underneath the bridge (weather permitting) and past Alcatraz Island. Enjoy views of the city skyline and the local sea lions, and then end your tour with a drop-off at Pier 39.

Please note: the order of activities can change, depending on the Muir Woods departure time, which won’t be confirmed until about a week before each tour.

A destination sampler trip.

Had family fly in from middle America and the South for a few days and wanted to show them some of what California had to offer. This trip was perfect. Muir Woods, Sausalito, a bay cruise and finished off with Pier 39. Our tour guide was funny as well as super knowledgeable. The first two stops were just over an hour but it gave them a taste of California. Great little trip for the price.

Organized- pleasant driver and informative. Bus seemed pretty new and well kept. Length was good for Muir Woods and Sausalito for us and the ferry back was a added peak and restful.

We did the Muir Woods/Sausalito/Pier 39 boat tour package, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was quite a long day, so be sure to get a good night's sleep. Our driver/guide was excellent, with a lot of interesting facts and history, and was very clear in his instructions on timing and logistics. My teenager loved the Muir Woods and boat aspects, but found Sausalito a little sleepy. Overall, I would recommend this for anyone who wants to enjoy a lot of outdoor beauty without all the driving/parking/planning.

Our tour guide, Joe, was very knowledgeable and funny. He had great suggestions on the best way to walk through the woods and where to eat in Sausalito. (Get the fish tacos!) It happened to be Fleet Week and the air show was going on above us on the Bay cruise. Awesome!!

The woods are amazing to see and Sausalito Bay is a quaint seaside Village. Our tour guide was terrible! He left people behind at Muir Woods, did not explain anything and his driving was poor!!! Needless to say he did not receive a tip.

Great Tour for 3 Generations

We relocated to the Bay Area from the east coast 8 months ago. My parents flew out to visit over Memorial Day Weekend. My son, an Airman in the USAF was also able to fly from SC. Having the family together for the first time in months, I wanted to find an activity that we could all enjoy while still having time to chat and catch up. I found this tour and booked for Sunday during the 3 day weekend. Everyone enjoyed the tour. That's not easy to do when you consider the demographics (23 and 21 year old "kids", late 40's mom and elderly grandparents). Pros: the instructions to meet the tour bus were easy to follow and checking in was a breeze. Overall cost (<$100/person) was a good price. The tour followed the scheduled times quite well. The tour guide was knowledgeable and engaging. He offered pro tips and assistance for several groups. First stop was the visitor center on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge. We only stopped here for a brief moment (10 minutes). If it was my first time here, I might not be as happy, but really, if you're staying in SF and want to get to the bridge, it's pretty easy to do. Second stop was Muir Woods; the redwoods are amazing. Of course, these trees are present all around the Bay, but you don't appreciate the grandeur until you've walked in the woods, stood next to a tree and pondered how amazing nature is. We had enough time at this spot (~ 75 minutes) to do a short hike. Those wanting more would do well to book a different tour. For us, this was perfect. Note: the roadway in to the woods can be challenging for those that get car sick; the bus has to wind around a bunch of switchbacks so be warned. After leaving Muir Woods, the bus brought us to Sausalito. The guide gave us several pointers as he drove to the drop off area. We had limited time here (1 hour) but were able to get some lunch (the fish and chips place was awesome...fast service and great food), and poke into a couple of shops before heading back to the bus. From there, we could choose to go back to the pickup point or to Pier 39. Since we had the Bay Cruise on our ticket, we went to Pier 39. We traded our vouchers in for tickets on to the cruise. The Bay Cruise staff was awesome...they allowed my family to board early (my mom has mobility challenges). The cruise has snacks and a bar. The only con is the timeline…it felt a little rushed at times, but that’s the nature of these types of tours.

Driver was monotone, did not stick to schedule, and we had to run like marathon runners to make it to the bay cruise.

I booked the tour for 9am on the day that I was flying home in the evening. When the email confirmation came, the email said the tour was for 1pm and the ticket said 9am. Issue #1 in my opinion. The tour office staff was friendly; I just didn’t care for the driver. He was a safe driver on the windy roads and freeway. However, he forgot to put the bus in park at Muir Woods so the bus jolted forward and almost ran over a young boy on the sidewalk. The driver was EXTREMELY knowledgeable and kind, but his voice and personality were so monotone and dull that many passengers fell asleep. He asked before we departed for the day how many were going on the ferry tour at the end, and a handful of people raised their hands. When we got to Sausalito, he announced the departure time which was longer than it was supposed to be according to the website, and I realized we’d be late for the bay cruise. I brought that to his attention, and he said, “I wish I would’ve known I had passengers going on bay cruise.” I immediately reminded him that he asked at 1 and people raised their hands. He had no response. With the traffic, he did get us to Fisherman’s Wharf 60 seconds before the last bay cruise of the day. We had to run like marathon runners and jump on. Muir Woods was great, Sausalito was divine, and the cruise was great. Our driver was not. I still tipped the elder gentleman $20 because it’s his job, but I was disappointed in tour guide.
